The primary role purpose is to drive a right first time ethos and associated cultural shift across all our projects across the full project lifecycle from tendering, design, construction to handover. This role will enhance project outcomes in multiple ways such as improving safety, compliance, predictability, margin, and resilience as well as reducing time, cost, waste, carbon and resources needed to deliver. The role predominantly has a focus on technical aspects of delivery, including leadership of technical / product focussed operational controls and processes, The Costain Way, and document / data management working in partnership with our engineering and digital teams. The role will also provide support to other teams and development activities across Costain. It is both internal and external facing and includes responsibility for reporting – including IFRS, database management, people management, brand protection and industry engagement. Success will be measured in multiple ways, including rework reduction, achieving predictable delivery, sharing excellence and embedding progressive assurance facilitating issue-free handover. Driving the culture of right first time and predictable best in class delivery across Costain and our supply chain through visible leadership and technical ability Responsible for development and implementation of quality management policies, process, procedures and systems. Define, oversee and manage quality assurance activities Being Costain’s external facing product quality lead, driving external quality activities with customers, academia, professional bodies and supply chain to showcase Costain’s brand. Signposting and supporting our teams to make the right quality based decisions across all stages of the project life – tendering, design, construction, handover. Ensure best practice and excellence is scaled across Costain providing compliant, robust and constructable solutions. Define and own the Costain product quality strategy – across all aspects of our business and projects. Particular focus on innovative project delivery, digital / data / records and design related quality. Define and maintain quality objectives Maintain our technical standards / ISO’s / certifications requirements in partnership with others, maintain and develop our Costain Way and compliance tools. Drive knowledge by developing and owning Costain quality / data and document databases to record and make excellence accessible to all. Coordinate with industry bodies, partners and institutions to capture best practice. Drive future ready solutions and horizon scan to ensure alignment with future needs, including sustainability, renewable energy and emerging trends. Develop and mentor quality team members, leading recruitment, competency and resourcing, define and maintain quality community competency and training. Be able to react to critical events through direct engagement and hands on support. Develop and implement corrective and preventative measures and action plans Develop and deliver quality focussed training sessions, governance and processes Be responsible for trend analysis, recording, reporting (internal and external) and being the primary point of contact for product quality in Costain across the full lifecycle. Collaborate and support other technical and delivery experts across Costain, including legacy. LI-MR1 Qualifications Essential Industry expert in quality leadership Experienced in major infrastructure programmes / projects in the UK. Visible leader with clear communication, presenting and influencing skills Proven experience in product / technical quality in an infrastructure environment Proven experience in quality processes, controls and management systems,skilled in developing corporate guidance, operating controls and databases. Understanding of quality risk / opportunity Wide breadth of quality control and assurance experience, underpinned with technical knowledge / reporting skills Knowledge of client quality regimes and industry best practice aligned to Costain business, ie ISO compliance Strong people focus, able to manage, mentor and engage both Costain and supply chain teams Be able to support Costain growth and lead client facing activities Experienced in project handover / close out and leading dispute resolution Must be commercially aware and able to manage budget and people. Understanding of strategic infrastructure trends / new approaches / innovations / research bodies Have clear knowledge of UK Regulatory framework / Government campaigns Essential UK recognised quality professional – such as Chartered CQI Professionally qualified in an aligned discipline Educational experience relevant to their discipline, ideally degree qualified to a 2:1 or better Desirable Experience in multiple sectors / work areas aligned to Costain business and growth ambitions Inspection and certification of works Construction experience and off site / modern methods of construction Mobility to work on various projects throughout the UK Be able to achieve UK security clearance Environmental / carbon / sustainability / digital awareness Experienced in line managing, leading and growing teams Desirable Engineering / technical / construction background Risk management training / qualification Safety related training Collaboration skills
