Calleydown is a residential short break care home for Children with Learning Disabilities aged 5 to 18 years. Some children have associated physical disabilities with total care needs, and some have challenging behaviour.
Calleydown is part of Croydon’s Services for Children with Disabilities Team, located in New Addington, Croydon.
We are seeking a residential worker with childcare experience to join our team. Applications are welcome from both male and female candidates.
Applicants should understand the additional needs of children with disabilities and be willing to provide care and support tailored to their needs. The key responsibilities include supporting and caring for children and young people, providing opportunities for fun, development, and learning. You will work as part of a team to promote positive outcomes, with direct supervision from a shift manager. Excellent communication skills, a child-focused approach, strong organizational skills, and adaptability are essential. Flexibility in approach is also required.
Additional skills include maintaining the home, completing household and domestic tasks, recording children’s information, and using computer skills for documentation as part of your link worker role. Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and implementing permissible control and physical interventions is necessary.
The role involves working on a rota pattern, including 2-10pm and 7am-3pm shifts, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties. An enhanced DBS check is required for successful candidates.
Applicants without NVQ or Diploma Level 3 in Children and Young People will need to complete training within the first two years of employment.
