Purpose of the Role
Creation, correlation, and exploitation of chassis and power unit models to maximize performance for the 2026 season and new regulations, in collaboration with our power unit partner and internal teams across Performance, Control Systems, Vehicle Design, and Race Engineering. The role involves optimizing car performance through setup and developing new concepts, as well as supporting real-time vehicle performance monitoring during events.
Principal Responsibilities
* Identify opportunities to improve car performance using high-fidelity powertrain models integrated with the car simulation toolchain.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
* Conduct pre-event power unit simulations to explore chassis and powertrain performance across various conditions.
* Support race events through live analysis to optimize vehicle performance during the race weekend.
* Produce high-quality, audience-appropriate analysis within challenging timeframes.
* Develop tools to enhance performance analysis.
Role Dimensions
This position is within Vehicle Performance, Performance Analysis Group. It requires weekend work during F1 race events in the UK and reports directly to the Head of Performance Analysis.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Master’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent qualifications.
* Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach.
* Proven experience in a power unit performance role in high-level motorsport.
* Deep understanding of vehicle systems interaction affecting performance.
* Experience in track/race/simulator environments.
* Programming skills in Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for data processing and tool development.
* Experience with McLaren Applied toolset (advantageous).
