Job Overview
We are seeking a Band 7 Psychological Midwife, fixed term for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with maternity multi‑disciplinary teams across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW), and in partnership with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP), to provide specialist psychological support to women affected by birth‑related trauma and tocophobia.
As a senior specialist practitioner, the successful candidate will act as a clinical and professional lead for maternity services.
The role includes line management responsibilities and the participation in the maternity on‑call rota.
Clinical Leadership
You will work closely with the Matrons and Divisional Director of Family and Specialist Services regarding all quality performance.
Quality Woman Centred Care
* To complete screening and triage of women presenting with trauma symptoms and prepare and chair triage meetings with relevant professionals.
* To be responsible for providing consultation, advice, referral and treatment within scope for women with mild/moderate trauma symptoms as part of the maternal mental health pathway.
* To provide personalised care based on each woman’s needs including support of personalised care and support plans, ensuring that these are updated in a timely way and communicated to relevant professionals.
Team Work and Collaboration
* Ensuring the annual appraisal of all team members, including assessment of performance and development of Personal Development Plans.
* Promoting interdisciplinary working with outcomes aimed at the best interests of women and cohesive service delivery.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
* Significant experience working within a senior clinical midwifery role
* Training in managing conduct, health, sickness and performance, recruitment and appraisal.
Desirable criteria
* Qualification in mental health and/or bereavement
* Counselling qualification
Knoweldge and expereince
Essential criteria
* Significant relevant clinical and management experience at band 6 or above (minimum 2 years).
* Evidence of working across a variety of midwifery settings including experience working with women with mental ill health.
* Evidence of involvement in service users’ advocacy and complaints resolutions.
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of further study
