Essential Requirement: Section 12 Approved
Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the designated service (e.g., Adult Inpatient, CMHT, Crisis Team, Old Age, Forensic, CAMHS depending on placement).
* Conduct risk assessments, formulation, and management plans in line with Trust and national guidelines.
* Participate actively in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ward rounds, and case discussions.
* Review patients regularly and document clinical findings, treatment plans, and progress notes to a high standard.
* Work collaboratively with Consultants, Nursing staff, Psychologists, Social Workers, and other MDT members to ensure safe and effective patient care.
* Contribute to Mental Health Act assessments and related duties (Section 12 approval required).
* Support safe patient flow, including admissions, discharges, and crisis management.
* Participate in clinical governance, audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Provide on call duties if required (rota dependent).
* Ensure compliance with NHS Trust policies, safeguarding procedures, and professional standards.
Essential Criteria
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Minimum 4 years post graduate experience, including at least 2 years in Psychiatry.
* Section 12 Approved under the Mental Health Act.
* Experience working within NHS mental health services.
* Strong skills in risk assessment, clinical decision making, and managing complex psychiatric presentations.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in the specific subspecialty (e.g., Adult, CAMHS, Forensic, Old Age).
* Participation in teaching, supervision, or training of junior staff.
* Evidence of involvement in audits, QI projects, or research.
* MRCPsych exams completed or in progress.
Working Pattern
* Monday–Friday (9–5) or as per service needs.
* On call commitments may be included depending on the rota.
* Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
