Role Overview
The Primary and Plant Design - Verification and Validation Engineer will independently review primary station design, plant and equipment across projects to ensure quality, safety, customer and regulatory standards are satisfied and operational needs met. The engineer develops a design quality plan with hold points, attends key design reviews, provides approval before proceeding, and advises on resolving non‑conformances for continuous improvement. The role ensures designs meet electrical, mechanical, environmental characteristics, functional requirements, inter‑disciplinary interfaces, construction efficiency, maintenance provisions, and safety systems.
Responsibilities
* Develop a design quality plan with specific hold points and approval criteria.
* Attend and provide independent assessment at key design reviews.
* Advise the design team on issues and recommend resolutions.
* Identify risks or complexities requiring additional focus.
* Ensure design alignment with customer specifications, operational requirements, construction feasibility, maintenance needs, and safety.
Qualifications
* A minimum of a first degree in Power Engineering or a related electrical engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Significant experience in a senior role reviewing high‑voltage substation layouts, plant designs and associated activities.
* Excellent knowledge of high‑voltage substation layout using AIS and GIS technology.
* Understanding of electrical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements and switchgear application parameters.
* Knowledge of auxiliary plant design within high‑voltage substation environments.
* Experience with high‑voltage earthing grid design and performance.
* Familiarity with construction of high‑voltage substations on brownfield sites and maintenance facility provision.

* Comfortable with electro‑mechanical considerations of high‑voltage systems.
* Skillful at reviewing designs both desk‑side and in reviews, clearly articulating required adjustments.
* Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently and flexibly.
