This post is based within the Universities Estates & Facilities department and offers an exciting opportunity for a Clerk of Works. The University is at a significant stage of campus development, with a new City Campus opening in September 2024. This role involves a wide range of projects and activities.
Working as part of a team providing professional services, you will lead the management of assessments for all construction works, including small, medium, and large projects, ensuring they are fit for purpose and enhance the student and staff experience. You will also oversee the assessment of reactive and planned works related to defect rectification and support construction development projects that underpin the masterplan, contributing to the University's growth and improvements in campus facilities.
This vital role requires a proactive, forward-thinking, and innovative professional with a proven track record in managing quality assessments of construction works, materials, and workmanship, in accordance with approved designs, industry standards, and codes of practice. You will provide detailed reports and updates to stakeholders, ensuring the best experience for staff and students. The post holder will mainly provide Clerk of Works (Construction) services across all University locations, inspecting workmanship, quality, and safety on-site, ensuring work aligns with designs and specifications.
Key duties include:
1. Leading and overseeing Clerk of Works responsibilities for all construction projects on both campuses.
2. Developing detailed reports on progress and quality of workmanship.
3. Conducting onsite audits and ensuring issues are rectified.
4. Preparing and presenting complex statistical analyses, reports, and surveys related to Clerk of Works deliverables.
5. Ensuring deviations from agreed designs, plans, materials, or specifications are approved and meet standards.
Candidates should possess relevant qualifications and experience, and be members of relevant professional institutions in property or built construction disciplines. Experience working within a large estates and property team, managing projects from a Clerk of Works perspective, and liaising with professional consultants and contractors is essential. Experience in the Higher and Further Education sector would be advantageous.
