Carmichael UK is working with a Tier 1 civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced highways Agent. This is a great opportunity to lead a key section of works on a major infrastructure scheme, managing teams, subcontractors, and technical delivery from pre-start through to handover. Responsibilities: Lead site operations across earthworks, drainage, structures, or surfacing (depending on section) Manage site teams including Engineers, Foremen, and Subcontractors Oversee daily planning, resource allocation, and delivery to programme Ensure compliance with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, and work package plans Liaise with commercial, design, and planning teams to drive progress Support forecasting, cost control, and reporting alongside the commercial team Drive a “Right First Time” culture on site Requirements: Previous experience as an Agent on highways or major civils projects Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, or structures packages HNC / HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certificates Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills Knowledge of NEC contracts and client-side expectations is beneficial
