Senior IT Systems Engineer/Automation Engineer Location: Preston, UK (Hybrid 3 days onsite) Industry: Managed Service Provider (MSP) Role Type: Permanent | Internal-facing *All applicants must have the right to work in the UK* The Opportunity Were recruiting an Automation Engineer for a well-established and forward-thinking MSP that is investing heavily in automation and operational efficiency. This is a newly created role, designed to remove reliance on manual processes and drive smarter, scalable ways of working. This position offers a genuine move away from ticket-heavy support into a strategic, build-focused role, where youll take ownership of automation across the business. Youll work closely with senior stakeholders, define best practices, and have a real impact on service delivery and business performance. The Role Youll act as the internal subject matter expert for automation, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automation across multiple platforms, with a strong emphasis on N-Central RMM. Operating with a high level of autonomy, youll bridge the gap between technical teams and leadership, identifying inefficiencies and delivering end-to-end solutions. Key Responsibilities Own the discovery, design, build, and ongoing management of automation solutions Develop, optimise, and maintain N-Central RMM policies, scripts, monitoring templates, and workflows Build automation and integrations across Halo PSA, Microsoft 365, Azure, and SOC tooling Create and maintain PowerShell scripts to reduce manual workload across technical teams Improve monitoring thresholds, alerting standards, and automated responses across RMM and SOC environments Support SOC alert optimisation, including automated enrichment and routing Build and maintain strong documentation and automation standards Create a centralised automation library to ensure repeatability and scalability Collaborate with internal teams to proactively identify automation opportunities Technology Stack N-Central RMM (must have) Halo PSA PowerShell API integrations / RESTful interfaces Microsoft 365 & Azure NOC & SOC tooling Ansible (desirable) Power BI / data warehousing exposure (desirable) What Success Looks Like (First 612 Months) A structured, documented automation library covering core operational tasks Reduced alert noise across the Service Desk Automation scorecards demonstrating time saved and efficiency gains Automated workflows across Halo PSA and N-Central About You Mid-to-senior level engineer with MSP experience (essential) Comfortable owning your workload and leading initiatives Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset Confident communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders Looking for a role with influence and long-term growth Set2 Recruit are acting as an employment agency in relation to this vacancy
