SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary School Location: Warrington Contract: Full-Time Teaching Personnel are looking for a committed, patient, and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a specialist secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in the Warrington area. Pupils in this setting often present with needs such as emotion regulation difficulties, trauma and attachment-related behaviours, persistent anxiety, oppositional behaviour, low self-worth, disengagement from learning, and social communication challenges. We are looking for someone who can provide stability, encouragement, and consistent support to help young people access education in a meaningful way. Role Overview As an SEMH TA, you will support students across a range of subjects, helping them build confidence, regulate emotions, and develop positive learning behaviours. You will play a key role in promoting structure, safety, and emotional wellbeing in the classroom. Key Responsibilities Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to engage positively in lessons and routines Assisting with personalised behaviour strategies and contributing to behaviour plans Helping students develop emotional resilience, social skills, and coping strategies Delivering targeted intervention sessions (academic, social, or emotional) Providing in‑class support to help students access differentiated learning Assisting with transitions between lessons and during movement around school Helping maintain a calm, structured and predictable learning environment Requirements We welcome applicants from education, youth work, mentoring, care, or SEMH backgrounds. You should have: Experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural, or complex needs Strong behaviour management and confidence using de-escalation strategies A calm, empathetic, and solution‑focused approach Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils Resilience and consistency when supporting challenging behaviour Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Why Work With Teaching Personnel?
