About the Learning Support Officer Role

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a range of Secondary Schools and Alternative Provision settings across Carmarthenshire to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Officer. This rewarding Learning Support Officer role involves supporting pupils with additional learning needs and behavioural challenges, contributing to a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities of the Learning Support Officer
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for learners with additional learning needs
* Assist in the implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and engagement
* Effectively manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviour
* Adapt to changing circumstances and individual pupil needs
* Create a calm, nurturing and structured classroom environment
* Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience and essential life skills
* Encourage emotional wellbeing and active participation in learning
What We're Looking For in a Learning Support Officer
The ideal Learning Support Officer will be patient, adaptable and confident in managing a dynamic classroom environment where no two days are the same.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Welsh‑speaking
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or challenging behaviour
* Background in sports, coaching or youth work
* Experience delivering consistent 1:1 or small group mentoring
Essential Qualities
* Resilient, calm and empathetic approach
* Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
* Commitment to inclusive education and pupil development
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
* Transferable skills from relevant professional backgrounds
Requirements
Teaching Personnel will support you through the compliance process. To work as a Learning Support Officer, you must:
* Be aged 18 or over
* Be registered (or willing to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
* Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
* Complete Level 2 Safeguarding training
* Provide two professional references covering the past 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
