Job Description
To provide supervised advice to the business in compliance with radiation protection and radioactive waste legislation as well as on Class 7 Dangerous goods legislation and to ensure that all work is done to keep the risk from radiation exposure as low as reasonably practicable to all critical groups.
Job Requirements
* Degree in a Science related discipline (or equivalent)
* Basic knowledge of Radiological protection
* Familiarity with audit procedures.
* Ability to communicate effectively with customers at all levels and to interpret the requirements of relevant legislation in a practical manner that is relevant to the needs of the customer.
* Alert to political sensitivity of issues relating to ionising radiation.
* Must be resilient and capable of meeting the travel commitments required to fulfil the role.
Job Responsibilities
* Undertake an intense training programme to gain RPA 2000 certification.
* Assist with site visits to onshore and offshore oil installations and other industrial establishments to inspect working practices and to ensure that operations are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation.
* Assist and also work individually to prepare reports on site visits and radiological audits providing where necessary, recommendations for improvements so that management can be assured of safe working practice and improved safety standards.
* Assist in liaising with regulatory authorities on ionising radiation matters and where appropriate, assist with the preparation of the local rules, risk assessments, contingency plans and applications for licences required for the various departments of Tracerco.
* Assist with the provision of Radiation Protection Advice and training/advice to members of the Tracerco group.
* Continually assess the market and put forward suggestions/proposals, complete with justification, for further improvement/expansion of the RPA offerings in the regions.
* Progress to the position of being capable of being appointed a Radioactive Waste Adviser.
