The successful candidate will join the existing Consultants in providing a full and comprehensive Oncology service across Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. This post will support, with other Consultant colleagues in the Centre, the provision of Oncological Services across the local network. Tumour site specialisation has been fully developed and the post holder will be expected to offer expertise in the management of Urology and Colorectal tumours. Opportunities exist for development of other specialist interests, and these can be negotiated for the right candidate. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to explore opportunities to become involved in other exciting initiatives such as research and trials. This post will give the candidate an excellent opportunity to be part of Urology and Colorectal services. 1. undertake clinical and managerial responsibility for the agreed oncology specialties and patients. This includes liaison with consultant colleagues, other clinicians, other hospital staff and general practitioners involved the diagnosis and management of oncology patients 2. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department 3. To attend and partake in the management of patients through the specific MDTs, maintaining national standards and participating in Peer Review 4. undertake research and show commitment to entering patients into clinical trials 5. share responsibility for the clinical standards of the oncology service including liaison with other members of the multidisciplinary team and the Centre 6. show responsibility for professional standards within oncology and ensure compliance with the standards required to satisfy national standards and the local quality system 7. work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team in the CMG 8. demonstrate a firm commitment to clinical governance including participation in effective clinical audit and continuing medical education 9. Requirement to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and an expectation to share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management. 10. To be included with other consultants in the Centre’s On-call and Receiving On-call Consultant rotas. About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: https://www.uhleicester.nhs.uk • To be a core member of a dynamic medical team aiming to deliver first class cancer care to the East Midlands. • To specialise in the delivery of radiotherapy for Urology and Colorectal malignancies. • Participate in the Urology and Colorectal MDTs working closely with surgical, Palliative Care and Oncology colleagues to provide a seamless service. • To demonstrate active participation in clinical trials helping to drive up trial recruitment and standards of care. • To provide leadership in clinical trials development and have an interest in clinical research. • To take an active role in undergraduate teaching • To carry out appropriate administration duties necessary to support the job. • Supervision, education and appraisal of junior staff. • To liaise closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies in contributing to meeting the objectives of the Clinical Management Team • To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents as defined in the Trust’s “Critical Incident Policy” are reported in a timely manner. • To actively participate in audit. • To participate in yearly appraisal and the job planning process. • To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as directed by the Trust and Clinical Management Team • To undertake a clinical managerial or leadership role at an appropriate point to meet the needs and objectives of the department.
