MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER — HYBRID / EDINBURGH WITH OCCASIONAL INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
Based in Edinburgh and with bases across the UK, GWR Talent’s client has over 20 years of experience designing and delivering highly complex automated storage equipment and managing full turnkey projects from design through to installation and commissioning for household retail clients. The business is expanding into new geographies, new customers and developing new technology. They now need to make the key hire of a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Working hybrid from home and in the Edinburgh office/Edinburgh Park (3 days per week), the Mechanical Design Engineer will also support the field service team, occasionally travelling to sites to support installation and commissioning projects.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Mechanical Design Engineer will join a hard working well established team. This is an excellent role, combining NPI/NPD from early stage to production, ongoing product development and cost saving / redesign projects, supporting customers and the installation and commissioning team both on and off site.
Responsibilities
* Design Generation: Create and develop mechanical designs and concepts based on customer requirements, project objectives, and industry standards; using CAD software (Solidworks).
* Design Optimisation: Optimise designs for performance, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.
* Engineering Analysis: Conduct engineering analysis to assess the feasibility, functionality and performance of mechanical designs. Employ techniques such as Root Cause Analysis and FMEA.
* Documentation and Technical Drawings: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including assembly drawings, technical files, specifications, change requests and manufacturing instructions.
* Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product leads, control engineers, and project managers and technicians. Effectively communicate design concepts and requirements to stakeholders.
* Site work: Assist installation build teams and commissioning at customer sites.
Qualifications
The relevant candidate is ideally educated to degree/HND calibre in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering. This role will suit candidates from a range of light or heavy product design backgrounds. We would be especially keen to hear from candidates involved in NPI/NPD or bespoke product development, especially larger scale automation projects. You have an excellent working knowledge of 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks) and ideally build and test of final products. Working knowledge of PLC Controls Automation products, conveyors, sensors, robotics will be a distinct advantage.
Compensation and Benefits
This job represents a superb opportunity for a proven Mechanical Design Engineer who loves large electro-mechanical product / equipment design and automation. As the business expands so too will your role and the scope of your role. Your base salary circa £45-50,000 is complemented by company pension, 33 days annual leave (including public holidays) and salary sacrifice benefits (car and bike).
