Job summary
The Home Treatment Team provides short-term mental health support at home, to avoid people being admitted to hospital and reduce length of stay for people in hospital. The team works across Sheffield and provides intensive support to our service users and their carers where there has been a significant deterioration in a person's mental health.
The Home Treatment Team is based at The Longley Centre, together with the Liaison Psychiatry service, and the urgent and crisis service, and some of our inpatient wards. The team undertakes crisis assessments, supports and treats people in the community as an alternative to admission to hospital and promotes timely discharge back into the community.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide senior medical leadership to the Home Treatment Team
2. Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings
3. Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team
4. Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment
5. Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery
6. Mental Health Act assessments of patients in contact with the team as well as participation in the daytime Section 12 rota
7. Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities
8. Liaison with members of other teams (e.g., CMHT, Acute wards)
9. Clinical supervision of junior medical staff, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and non-Medical prescribers
10. Teaching Undergraduate Medical students

Essential
* Collaborative, inclusive and service user focused approach to assessment and formulation/diagnosis in a community setting
* Clear, evidence-based approach to risk assessment & management
* Ability to appraise complex, multi-faceted information from various sources and bring together into a shared, coherent understanding
Desirable
* Knowledge of best practice and evidence relating to Community General Adult Psychiatry
* Experience of involvement in service development
* Leadership training/knowledge
Training and Qualifications
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion
* Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (Higher trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent
* Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved
* Approved Clinician (AC) status/eligibility to be on the AC register
Desirable
* MRCPsych or equivalent
Experience
Essential
* Experience in General Adult Psychiatry including working within a community-based service
* Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
Desirable
* Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a community mental health team
