Role Profile

The Senior Engineering Manager is a pivotal role within our Construction Standards team, which oversees the engineering integrity of the Group’s core data centres, international offices, customer branch network, and UK Office Hub locations. You’ll lead the development and implementation of our MEP engineering standards, ensuring they drive compliance, resilience, and sustainability across our diverse estate.

You’ll work closely with colleagues in asset investment, IT operations, security, sustainability, and project delivery to ensure our engineering services support the Group’s long-term growth and transformation. With ongoing investment in our retail estate to create great spaces for colleagues and customers, and significant upgrades to our office hub locations, this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our built environment.

The role also includes a supporting responsibility for our core data centre facilities, which are critical to the Group’s operations. Experience in critical infrastructure management is therefore highly desirable. A passion for transforming building services management through software, automation, and AI is also desirable. This includes a willingness to collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to initiatives such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Digital Twinning, and MEP asset management.


What you’ll do

* Develop and maintain technical standards and specifications for building services, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ensuring engineering practices align with statutory regulations, industry codes of practice, and internal policies.
* Lead periodic reviews and updates of engineering standards in response to regulatory changes, innovation, or operational feedback. Ensuring engineering standards are embedded in procurement, contractor management, and project delivery processes.
* Provide expert oversight of engineering systems across the property portfolio, including HVAC, electrical distribution, fire systems, and water hygiene.
* Conduct technical audits and inspections to ensure compliance and performance.
* Support incident investigations and root cause analysis for engineering-related failures or risks.
* Advise on engineering design and technical specifications for capital projects, refurbishments, and lifecycle replacements.
* Review and approve engineering documentation, commissioning plans, and handover procedures.
* Maintain a register of engineering risks and ensure mitigation plans are in place.
* Collaborate with Workplace Experience, Capital Projects, and external consultants/suppliers to ensure consistent application of engineering standards.
* Act as a technical authority and advisor to senior leadership and operational teams. Representing the organisation in industry forums and regulatory engagements.


Key Skills

* Systems and Procedures: Familiarity with CAFM systems, SFG20, JCT & NEC contracts, and the RIBA Construction Plan of Work
* Quality Assurance: Understand industry regulation and best practices, including embedding of procedural compliance and control frameworks
* Creativity & Innovative Thinking: Experienced at coaching others to identify, analyse, and stimulate new opportunities for growth, profit, and competitive advantage.
* Using external insights to look beyond financial services for ideas and adopts, amends and tailors them to make it fit-for-purpose to the Group.
* Business and Commercial Insight: Possesses deep understanding of the business and has experience in shaping priorities and strategy using detailed industry insights as well as external, economical, social and competitor trends.
* Collaboration: demonstrates strong collaboration skills, advocating the value of on-going collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to realise the Group’s strategy and creates opportunities for cross-cultural, cross-business network building and collaboration. With the ability to create and sustain a large network of mature professional relationships, build connections and break down silos.

* Professional Qualifications: Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) in a relevant discipline (e.g., CIBSE, IET, IMechE).
* Professional Experience: Extensive experience in building services engineering, ideally within large-scale or complex estates, including a proven track record of developing and implementing engineering standards.


Additional Skills

* Experience in consultancy, FM operations, or engineering asset management
* Experience in critical infrastructure environments, particularly data centres
* Working knowledge of digital transformation in building services, including software, automation, and AI.
* An engineering-related degree
