The Role
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join our dynamic team within Glasgow’s Interventional Radiology (IR). The role includes a cross‑site rotation across locations in NHS GGC including GRI (IR theatre K), GGH and QEUH. As a Health Care Support Worker and integral part of the IR team, you will play a crucial role in assisting in delivering high‑quality care to patients before, during and after interventional radiological procedures.
* Providing direct patient care and support throughout their journey in IR
* Supporting the clinical team in delivering excellent patient outcomes
* Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of imaging/IR equipment
* Carrying out admin duties as required and maintaining stock via Genesis
* Ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards

Clinical Responsibilities
* Work within Radiation protection guidelines in accordance with Local Rules and IR(ME)R 2000 to ensure correct patient receives correct x‑ray examination with minimum radiation dose.
* Prepare examination rooms for different types of examinations, ensuring rooms are kept clean, tidy and stocked with supplies.
* Assist radiographers/nurses in moving and handling patients to ensure a safe environment.
* Assist and chaperone patients during imaging examinations when required.
* Assist patients with all activities of daily living.
* Monitor stock levels for consumables and change laundry when required.
* Comply with waste management policy daily.
* Work as part of a team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care.
* Liaise with fellow health care workers and referring clinicians to provide a high‑quality imaging service to patients.
* Assist with a range of image‑guided interventional procedures, including preparation of sterile trolleys/equipment where necessary, and assist medical staff during a sterile procedure.
* Undertake IV cannulation/removal after appropriate training.
* Adhere to the organisational Infection Prevention and Control policy and SOPs, acting as a role model in the maintenance of a safe environment.
* Responsible for daily/weekly cleaning and maintenance of equipment in accordance with infection prevention and control requirements.
* Co‑operate with and maintain good relationships with other disciplines that are attending and treating clients to maximise patient care.
* Maintain accurate patient records and input accurate information into the Radiology Information System, including post‑processing when required.
* Check patient ID in accordance with Employer Procedures (EP7) and NHSGGC Patient Identification Policy.
* Organise portering services under the direction of the Radiographers/RN.
* Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.
Clerical Responsibilities
* Assist with the collection and distribution of patient documentation (where appropriate) and ensure that patients and paperwork are directed to the appropriate department.
* Participate in entering patient information from the request card into the Radiology Information System.
* Assist A/C staff in patient liaison activities, e.g. issuing patient appointments and patient preparation as directed by radiographic/nursing/medical staff.
* Maintain stock levels within IR using the current electronic stock system.
General Responsibilities
* Comply with and contribute to implementation of NHSGGC policies and procedures, departmental and professional policies and procedures.
Educational and Training Requirements
* Participate in induction and mandatory training.
* Participate in e‑KSF Personal Development Plan (PDP) and review to continually improve through training and education.
* In‑house training will be given to enhance skills in Health Care and IT.
Qualifications and Experience
* No formal qualifications are required but the post holder must have good written and verbal communication skills.
* Previous experience in a healthcare or caring environment is essential.
* The post holder will participate in NHSGGC HCSW Induction and in‑house training to gain competencies relevant to the post.
* Ability to follow instructions and a willingness to learn.
* Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Knowledge of basic IT skills although on‑site training will be provided.
* Ability to fulfil the requirement of the job description including undertaking national HCSW induction and training programme.

Additional Information
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‑time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
