SENDCO (Full time or FTE0.8)

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a dedicated professional to lead and coordinate SEND, either full-time or FTE0.8, from 1st January 2026. The exact number of days can be negotiated for the right candidate. We are seeking a suitably qualified SENCO or a qualified teacher with a willingness to achieve NPQ SENCO Award. We would also consider primary trained teachers.
This position is suitable for experienced SEND professionals or leaders with a strong understanding of inclusion and a passion for supporting every child to achieve their best. Expertise in identifying and addressing additional needs, developing individual support plans, and working closely with families and external agencies is essential. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to take the first steps in this role, or for a more experienced practitioner seeking to work fewer hours.
The ideal candidate will also be confident in leading staff training and promoting inclusive teaching strategies across the school. They should be proactive in sharing best practice, fostering collaboration, and supporting colleagues to ensure that all pupils whatever their needs can flourish academically and personally.
The Elton High School is a significantly oversubscribed school with a tradition of excellence. We have a history of high achievement and our most recent Ofsted inspection reflects this. The inspection (February 2022) reiterated the strengths that had been confirmed in the previous report (2017) and are firmly embedded across our school. The inspection team noted that ‘pupils are proud to attend’ Elton with an established culture of ‘high aspirations for what pupils can achieve’. Our students achieve well, with the inspectors being particularly impressed with the climate for learning and behaviour of our students their ‘positive behaviour at all times is characteristic of the respectful culture of this school [and] their positive conduct reflects leaders’ high standards’.

We have a strong system of staff training in place aimed at developing the very best practice, with a constant focus on ensuring that all of our team feel supported to give of their best and to have a work life balance. Initiatives include a half termly Golden Week (no meetings scheduled), Staff Wellbeing Committee and an annual Well-being Day for every member of staff.
