We are currently partnered with a well-established engineering company based in Portsmouth, renowned for their work in marine, offshore maintenance, repair, and shipbuilding. Their operations span across military, commercial shipping, and energy sectors, providing high-quality fabrication, installation, and maintenance solutions.Due to ongoing project demands, particularly a split barge project and upcoming marine refit work, we are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join the team on a long-term basis, with a strong view to permanent employment.Key Responsibilities:Perform MIG and MAG welding on mild steel components for marine and offshore structuresFabricate and weld steel plates of various thicknesses to high-quality marine-grade standardsInterpret and work from technical and engineering drawings to ensure accurate fabricationCarry out burning/cutting operations using Oxy-Propane equipmentAssist in fabrication, installation, repair and modification of marine structures and equipmentSupport dry dock and shipyard repair activities, including shell plating, structural stiffeners, and reinforcement workOperate general workshop machinery and hand tools, including:GuillotinesHydraulic steel workersAngle grinders and gas torchesCarry out work in both workshop and in-situ on marine vessels, occasionally in confined spaces and at heightsMaintain safe working practices in accordance with company HSE procedures and site-specific safety protocolsEssential Requirements:Proven experience in MIG & MAG welding of mild steel in a marine or heavy industrial environmentAbility to support both workshop-based fabrication and onboard vessel repairs and modificationsCompetency in steel burning, measuring, marking out, and assembly techniquesFull UK Driving LicenceWillingness to work occasional weekends, and travel for short durations to support offshore or dockside projects if requiredEligibility to work on MOD sites – successful candidates must be able to pass BPSS security clearance (arranged and funded by the client)A strong work ethic, ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentDesirable (but not essential):Current or previous MOD site experienceFamiliarity with Lloyds or DNV welding standardsConfined space or working at height certificationsExperience with marine vessel repairs, e.g., split barges, workboats, ferries, or offshore support vesselsWorking Hours:Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 17:30Overtime: Paid at time and a third from 15:30 – 17:30Breaks:Morning: 10:00 – 10:15Lunch: 13:00 – 13:30This is a great opportunity for a welder who wants to be part of a dynamic, fast-growing engineering business at the heart of the UK’s marine and offshore maintenance industry.
