Job Description - Registered Manager - Children's Home

Job Title: Registered Manager - Children's Home

Reporting to: Responsible Individual & Operations Manager

Location: Stoke-on-Trent (new home)

Salary & Package:

GBP 50,000 per year with easily achievable bonuses

Purpose

To manage the day to day running of the children's home and ensure that it meets the expectations and standards as set out in its Statement of Purpose.

To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, ensuring that the home remains fully compliant with all legislation that is set out in the Children's Homes Regulations including the Quality Standards

To establish and maintain a competent, motivated, and confident staff team and to offer leadership, managerial direction, guidance, and support to staff at all levels.

To ensure that the company's policies and procedures are adhered to and that resources are managed effectively

To develop systems for the efficient administration of the home and to ensure that the fabric of the home, equipment, appliances, and grounds are maintained to the highest order in accordance with Health and Safety requirements.

To be the responsible person in managing child protection concerns and complaints.

To liaise with Local Authorities, School, Health, and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

To actively promote the home's equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

· To apply a comprehensive understanding of Acorns to Oaks policies and procedures as an employee and all aspects of working practices.

· To develop the staff team's knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices and processes; leading, co-ordinating, and resolving safeguarding matters as required.

· To respond quickly and appropriately to referrals in line with organisational requirements including matching processes, always aspiring to full occupancy levels.

· To meet organisational Key Performance Indicators as required.

· To communicate with staff teams effectively, about regulatory requirements, developing their understanding to support the homes delivery of high-quality care.

· To lead and co-ordinate the development, implementation, and delivery of the child/young person's care plan; communicating and setting goals, supporting practice development, and ensuring progress is monitored effectively.

· To manage resources effectively to enable staff teams to meet all the physical needs of the child/young person.

· To actively monitor all aspects of service delivery for quality, standards and effectiveness using regulatory reporting mechanisms to do so (Regulation 33/45/32/44).

· To actively monitor all recording, and reporting systems ensuring they are utilised correctly and to the highest standard.

· Provide regular feedback, support, and direction to staff teams to ensure that the required quality and standard of service delivery is being met.

· To participate and contribute to the objectives of the wider organisation, via recruitment, development projects etc.

· To co-ordinate the training and lead the formal professional development of staff teams ensuring that learning is applied in the home and reflected upon in supervisions.

· To oversee and monitor that all domestic duties in the home are carried out to the highest possible standard, role modelling this standard to others and challenging poor practice.

· To lead the strategic development of all aspects of the home, including a caring homely environment - planning, organising and delegating to others to assist this process.

· To be the standard setter in homemaking and care for the fabric, equipment and grounds of the home and wider organisation, monitoring and overseeing that this standard is understood and met.

· To monitor and oversee the vigilance of the staff teams in adhering to risk management plans and agreed levels of supervision of young people.

· To develop skills, knowledge, and experience in accordance with a personal development plan agreed with line manager to develop working practice and set professional goals.

· To act with integrity, honesty, and child centred practice always and expect the same of others.

· To provide leadership and guidance to support decision making that is always in the best interests of the children, young people, and the organisation actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals and line manager in this regard.

· To lead actively, motivate, delegate, and provide direction to staff teams to ensure effective use of working hours, monitoring actively and providing feedback to individuals in this regard.

· To oversee and monitor the safety and well-being of young people and developing a culture of alertness to signs of distress, neglect, and abuse. Leading on the development of a culture of sensitivity towards young people and their emotional needs.

· To lead on the development of a culture of mindfulness in relation to race, culture, language, and religion, to ensure that every child/young person is treated fairly and as an individual entitled to respect and dignities.

· To utilise the organisation's whistle blowing policy to ensure that poor practice, negligence, and dishonesty is dealt with appropriately.

· To utilise planning and organisational skills to support Acorn to Oaks to achieve its goals and objectives.

· To manage the home's rota to effectively administer yours and others training commitments and annual leave responsibilities.

· To manage the homes resources, human and financial effectively and provide reports, timesheets etc. in a timely fashion.

· To manage sickness initiating formal procedures where necessary.

· To utilise supervisions, appraisal, and formal HR procedures effectively to manage performance of staff teams.

· To monitor effective planning and running of shifts, providing direction and guidance where required.

· To be the lead when working with internal and external services / professionals to ensure the continuity of care for children and young people.

· To be fully accountable for the homes petty cash and monitor financial systems and processes to ensure processes are followed correctly.

· To be accountable for all records, systems and operating procedures of the home as set by line manager, providing feedback to individuals and line manager in this regard.

· To apply a high level of commitment and positive attitude to all aspects of working practice.

· To lead and manage a team to work effectively in a complex working environment where children and young people's behaviours affect the organisations resources.

· To lead and manage a flexible and adaptable team who can provide adequate resources to meet the changing needs of children, young people, and the organisation.

· To communicate positively and constructively about the children, young people, colleagues, and organisation at all times, providing feedback to individuals in this regard.

· To plan staff meetings and participate in clinical supervision as required, taking a lead in constructive and meaningful engagement with these processes.

· To make use of regular supervision and provide supervision to staff teams.

· To actively engage and role model personal reflection about the impact of the work on one's own feelings, one's colleagues and about one's own strengths and weaknesses.

· To commit to ongoing personal and professional development, ensuring regulatory training is completed and refreshed accordingly, and role modelling the value of this to colleagues.

· To act in a respectful, polite, and transparent manner always, actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals and line manager.

· To lead and manage teams, work with all other professionals acting in a respectful, polite, and transparent manner always, actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals.

· To recognise and value the roles held by all employees of Acorns to Oaks, actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals.

· To be the lead in developing and maintaining professional relationships with children and young people, individuals with parental responsibility, social workers, teaching staff and other professionals involved in the care of young people, acting as a role model and challenging poor practice.

· To take a lead in sharing significant information with colleagues, line managers in a timely fashion, acting as a role model and challenging poor practice.

· To oversee and monitor effective handovers, providing feedback to individuals and about their quality.

· To act as a member of the staff team and wider organisation, supporting colleagues and being prepared to receive support as necessary.

· To lead and manage a staff team, providing support, setting goals and targets, and leading on staff development.

· To lead and manage a staff team with initiative, accountability, and responsibility always to developing the functioning of the team, providing guidance and direction.

· To recognise one's own strengths and weaknesses, and those of colleagues to contribute effectively to the functioning of team, acting as a lead in this regard to develop practice and quality.

· To recognise that all employees of Acorns to Oaks and external agencies are part of the wider team involved in children's services and act accordingly, actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals and line manager.

· To contribute to other projects, initiatives and recruitment processes in the wider organisation as required.

· To be aware of policies and procedures and act accordingly to them

· Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required commensurate with the level of the position

The Key Activities relevant to this role do not form an inclusive list of expected duties. Post holders are expected to complete all activities related to the achievement of these objectives along with any other activities deems appropriate for the seniority of this position as directed by Senior Managers.
