Westlakes Recruit are currently supporting one of our major clients who are currently recruiting for a Civil Project Engineer, to support on their defence work in Reading. The Project: Working to deliver one of the UK's major programmes in the Defence Sector, a replacement assembly and disassembly facility to replace existing facilities. The client provides Construction Management and delivery services on behalf of AWE's Supply Chain Partners through construction towards commissioning and project completion whilst delivering a cost-effective solution to the end user. The Opportunity: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Project Engineer with 3-8 years of experience in the construction industry to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to work on diverse and challenging projects. You will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of the passive fire protection for one of the UKs major projects, supporting the Project Manager and site teams in all technical, planning, and coordination aspects. Key Responsibilities: Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and guidance to the site team, interpreting drawings, specifications, and design information. Quality Assurance: Assist in implementing and monitoring quality control procedures, ensuring works are completed to the highest standards and in accordance with project specifications and regulations. Programme Management: Support the Project Manager in developing, monitoring, and updating project programmes, identifying potential delays and proposing mitigation strategies. Subcontractor Coordination: Liaise with subcontractors, ensuring their works align with the project programme and technical requirements. Health & Safety: Promote and adhere to strict health and safety standards on site, conducting regular inspections and contributing to risk assessments. Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve technical issues and challenges that arise during the construction process. Reporting: Prepare regular progress reports for the Project Manager, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and upcoming activities. Stakeholder Liaison: Contribute to effective communication with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders as required. Skills & Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. 2-5 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer on construction projects in the UK. Experience & understanding of passive fire protection and fire stopping systems is desirable but not required. Solid understanding of construction methods, techniques, and regulations. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications. Experience with project programming software (e.g., Primavera P6) is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail. Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites as required. CSCS card holder (or equivalent). Holder or ability to obtain & hold SC (or above) clearance is required.
