Role Overview
* To support the delivery of the UK growth strategy for Howden Re, providing advice and guidance on compliance and regulatory matters to Howden Re staff and supporting the Senior Compliance Manager with the development and oversight of compliance frameworks and controls.
* Working with the Senior Compliance Manager, the role holder will help set a culture of openness that enables sustainable entrepreneurial growth, relevant to a rapidly growing reinsurance business.
* To establish strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders that create a positive compliance culture.
* Support the implementation of the annual Howden Re (UK) Compliance Plan.
Key Accountabilities
The role holder is expected to:
* Act as an initial referral point for the business on compliance or regulatory matters, escalating to management when required.
* Maintain Second Line of Defence resources including training materials, policies and written procedures and advise First Line of Defence teams on the design and implementation of these.
* Support the business in adapting to a rapidly changing environment by staying informed of material compliance and regulatory developments relevant to the markets in which Howden Re (UK) operates and with Group wide compliance trends and themes.
* Support the continuous enhancement of Second Line of Defence MI and reporting and Second Line communication channels.
* Respond to concerns or breaches identified by local First or Second Line of Defence Functions.
* Support the design and, where necessary, perform ad-hoc reviews related to compliance matters – either remotely or on site.
* Ensure that regulatory matters, concerns and risks of the Division are visible and reported in a timely manner to both the Divisional Senior Management and to the appropriate assurance committee, to ensure appropriate action and oversight by both the first and second line of defence.
* Support the development of an annual Howden Re Compliance Plan for presentation to the Howden Re UK Audit and Risk Committee, including establishing and tracking the performance of the Second Line including services provided by central compliance resources.
* Work with other support functions and with Second Line of Defence colleagues across Howden Re and in the Howden Group to improve the scalability and efficiency of processes. Attend regular meetings with these functions as required.
* Work closely with Howden's Learning and Development team to develop and monitor compliance training for Howden Re UK staff.
* Prepares an approach to provide the Senior Compliance Manager with regular updates on progress against key deliverables and tasks, as defined within the Compliance Plan.
* Work closely with the Compliance Monitoring Team to develop general compliance metrics to support the early identification of any emerging trends which may signal potential detriment to clients.

* Good understanding and working knowledge of current compliance practices an techniques;
* Comfortable operating in matrix environments;
* Strong communication skills and ability to disseminate complex topics to management and stakeholders;
* Good interpersonal skills and an awareness of adaptations needed when working across multiple cultures;
* Highly adaptable with a strong positive attitude towards change;
* Strong experience of Microsoft tools.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
Experience
* Experience of working in a corporate environment and a strong understanding of corporate governance in financial services;
* Experience of preparing reports and presentations;
* Industry recognised qualifications desirable but not essential depending on relevant experience; and
* Demonstrable experience of working in a regulatory environment with an understanding of Compliance policies and standards.
