Copleston High School is a popular 11-18 mixed comprehensive noted for its caring and disciplined atmosphere. It was judged as a 'good school with outstanding features' by Ofsted in December 2023. As a school we are committed to raising standards of learning.
From September 2026, we are seeking an inspirational and ambitious Head of Geography to lead a thriving and forward‑thinking department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner or emerging middle leader with the vision, and subject expertise to join a well-established department with experienced teachers across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
As Head of Geography, you will provide strategic leadership for the subject: analysing performance data, driving improvement priorities, and securing strong progress for all learners. The role also includes managing departmental resources, leading fieldwork opportunities, and contributing fully to the wider life of the school.
We are looking for someone who:
* oversees curriculum design from KS3 to KS5, ensuring high-quality sequencing, assessment practice, and exam preparation
* has the experience and ability to teach Key Stage 5 curriculum
* demonstrates excellent classroom practice and the ability to model this for others
* has the credibility and interpersonal skills to lead, motivate and inspire colleagues
* is committed to continuous school improvement, using evidence and data to inform decisions
* values a collaborative, supportive approach to curriculum development and teaching
* brings energy, innovation and a genuine passion for Geography and its place in a modern curriculum.
