Turner & Townsend currently have a number of exciting opportunities for Project Controls Managers to support major construction projects in the UK. The role involves leading a multi-functional Project Controls team, working collaboratively with the client’s Project Manager and supply chain to provide a realistic baseline, embed effective controls to monitor progress, manage issues, and mitigate slippage to drive delivery and enable successful project outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
1. Embed a robust breakdown structure, integrating data from each of the controls functions.
2. Coordinate and lead estimating sessions to establish an agreed, market-tested cost baseline focusing on value for money and budget realism.
3. Coordinate and lead planning sessions to compile the master project/programme schedule baseline, ensuring achievable durations.
4. Understand procurement principles, collate lead times within the schedule, and communicate the prioritization of ordering materials and equipment to meet scheduled install dates.
5. Manage the risk management process, including qualitative and quantitative assessments to support cost and schedule predictability.
6. Manage stakeholder engagement, ensuring key stakeholders sign off the baseline and have visibility of regular progress updates.
7. Embed a robust update process, managing schedule, interfaces, cost, risk, and changes effectively.
8. Guide and influence the principal contractor and client to drive delivery and achieve schedule and cash flow KPIs.
9. Control costs using knowledge of conceptual estimating, funding stage gates, basic contingency principles, and procurement principles.
10. Control the master program by applying quality checks to updates from the client and principal contractor.
11. Lead the change management process, providing a platform for adding, tracking, monitoring, and approving changes in a timely fashion.
12. Identify trends and root causes of deviations against the baseline, using lead and lag indicators, and report remedial actions to drive value for the client.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Proven experience in delivering controls in a major project/programme environment.
* Experience managing a multi-functional controls team.
* Proficiency with controls and general software applications such as Primavera (P6), Power BI, Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up processes.
* Experience leading collaborative workshops.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with strong time management skills.
* Highly motivated, driven, and passionate about delivering client outcomes.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Willingness to travel to client sites as required, with flexibility for remote working.
