Overview
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a Renal Specialist Nurse with at least 2 years of recent renal/acute experience to join the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Team. The role involves caring for patients with progressive CKD, providing individualised care and education for renal replacement therapies, transplantation or conservative management. The department is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, closed weekends and bank holidays. The advertised role is full time with some flexibility within departmental operating hours; part-time consideration may be possible if service needs are met.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the management of patients with CKD, coordinating care for CKD stages 4 to 5, preparing and educating for dialysis or conservative management.
* Involvement in anaemia management for CKD patients and participation in clinics off site at Walsall and Cannock (nurse-led or MDT).
* Undertake home visits to patients as required and work closely with the Transplant Team to assist in transplant education and workup.
* Work autonomously with own caseload and collaborate with multidisciplinary team; dictate letters from clinic reviews and make referrals as necessary.
* Contribute to patient education regarding renal replacement therapies and follow up tests from clinics, liaising with nephrologists and senior nursing colleagues.
* Develop and maintain post-registration education; V300 prescribing qualification is desirable (or working towards it).
* Attend conferences and training opportunities to expand skills as appropriate.
Qualifications & Skills
* Essential: Relevant postgraduate specialty qualification or equivalent renal/acute experience and knowledge; current NMC qualification; 2 years post-registration experience in an acute setting.
* Desirable: Health assessment module level 6 or above and non-medical prescribing qualification; IV cannulation competency; ability to apply knowledge to a broad range of clinically challenging situations; critical thinking and analytical skills; any relevant renal experience.
