The Role
Tameside is positioned for growth, with a wealth of culture, history, and heritage. Located only 12 minutes from Manchester City Centre, it offers urban opportunity and rural tranquillity.
Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management and Capital Projects, you will act as the professional client for all stages of capital construction projects, from inception to completion. You will coordinate stakeholder input, manage design, monitor progress, and deliver contracts.
You will deliver an agreed capital programme of work and individual projects with agreed cost and timescales, meeting service, quality, timeliness, communication, and value‑for‑money expectations. You will advise internal and external clients, providing expert market knowledge.
You will manage a small team of Project Managers and work with the delivery team to select appropriate design and construction solutions. You will liaise with technical, statutory, and advisory parties and act as the key focal point for the Council’s projects, including supply‑chain instruction.
You will manage internal and external resources, liaising with key parties, analysing data, prioritising actions, and managing risk. You will handle complex professional or politically sensitive issues, communicating with Councillors, residents, schools, and internal stakeholders, delivering optimum results for Tameside.
About You
You will be a Chartered Surveyor or hold a relevant professional qualification and/or have significant experience in a relevant area, preferably with leadership experience in a local authority setting. You work at pace with enthusiasm and drive, and engage with and influence partners at all levels.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Chartered Surveyor or equivalent professional qualification.
* Significant experience in capital project management or related field.
* Leadership experience in a local authority setting preferred.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Ability to manage risk and deliver projects on time and budget.
* Knowledge of design and construction best practices.
