An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Physician Associate to join our welcoming and friendly team at Omnia Medical Practice, a forward thinking practice based in the East of Birmingham.
We are looking to employ an experienced Physician Associate to join our existing team on a full time basis to help us expand and develop our urgent care services both in our pediatric and adult care services.
We already employ an experienced Physician Associate Team and wish to enhance the team under the guidance of the Partners and Management Team.
You will be joining a team of 3 other PA's.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to build on our existing team of motivated PA's. We feel that there is ample opportunity within the organisation to improve the care of our patients and we believe that the role of the PA is an exciting part of this journey. The successful candidate will have access to direct mentoring and supervision from one of our very experienced Partners and also the PA Team Leader. As we are an educationally focused organisation, we are happy to support further education on an ongoing basis. Day to day the role will consist of acute patient assessment via history taking, the use of long term condition management and also engaging in health promotion and lifestyle advice. The successful candidate will also be given allocated administration time to cover any patient follow up work.
We will ensure that you hare trained in all the competencies that are required for the role.

We serve approximately 17000 socially and culturally diverse patients. We work from a large modern purpose build facility offering a range of services caring for the needs of our patients which extends beyond traditional GP healthcare. Our Community Hub, situated in reception was set up with our patients overall wellbeing in mind. It offers a place to come together and enjoy shared interests and hobbies on a weekly basis with activities ranging from walking, knitting and gardening to bicycle tuition.
We operate an nationally recognised social prescribing service and have high standing in our locality.
The practice is made up of a large family of professionals comprising of GPs, Nurses, HCAs, TNA, a Pharmacist, Physiotherapist and our existing PA's. In addition we have an experienced management and administration team who work together with the shared aim of providing excellent patient care to all of our patients. This is a shared vision for both the partners and the staff of the practice.

Job summary
As a PA you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a GP. You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the General Practice, in consultation with the duty GP. You will work with the Multi-Disciplinary General Practice team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.
Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel. The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders skills and knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governance arrangements. You will follow recommended annual appraisals and continuing professional development set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).
1. SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To deliver a high standard of patient care using advanced autonomous clinical skills with in-depth theoretical knowledge and evidence based Practice working under the supervision of a GP
1. To manage a clinical caseload and deal with presenting patients needs in a primary care setting
2. To provide clinical leadership where appropriate within the Practice and support other members of the team to develop and maintain clinical skills appropriate to your role and expertise.
2. PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical
3. Undertake surgery based consultations for emergency or routine problems including management of long term conditions. In addition, undertake telephone calls.
4. Instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports within the scope of a PAs Practice. Discuss the result and implications of laboratory investigations with patients.
5. Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice .
6. Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.
7. Refer patients directly to other services or agencies using appropriate referral pathways .
8. Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the Practice as appropriate.
9. Work directly with members of the Practice Primary Health Care Team (PPHCT) and support integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with wider primary care / social care networks.
10. Identify community health needs and participate in the development of patient/family-centred strategies to address them.
11. Contribute to the practice quality targets to consistently achieve high standards of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective patient care and service delivery.
Training and development
12. Participate in continuing professional development opportunities to keep up-to-date with evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role to meet clinical governance guidelines for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and a Personal Development Plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to Practice. This requires 50 hours of CPD every year.
13. Undertake a variety of research and analysis tasks associated with the improvement of clinical care, medical diagnosis and treatment where appropriate using the following means.
14. Audit of clinical practice
15. Significant event review / root cause analysis
16. Review of relevant literature
17. Research unusual symptoms and treatment options through consultation with general practitioners, physicians and other specialists.
18. Contribute to regular multi-disciplinary and or Practice educational meetings.
19. Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Protocol and Patient Group Directions (PGDs) development as appropriate ..
20. Work closely with other clinical staff and administrative managers in the setting up and/or improving of Practice systems for monitoring/measuring performance against Clinical Governance and Quality Indicator targets.
Administration
21. Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete all required paperwork for legal and administrative purposes in accordance with relevant standards.
22. Work in accordance with internal administrative systems relating to but not limited to the management of clinical data.
23. Send and receive written information on behalf of the Practice relating to the physical and social welfare of patients.
24. Ensure that all Practice policies are fully implemented.
4. Professional
25. Take the UK PA National Re-Certification Exam every six years - required for Physician Associates AND maintain your professional registration working within the latest Code of Professional Conduct (CIPD).
26. Undertake statutory and mandatory training as required by the Practice.
27. Demonstrate clinical leadership.
28. Pro-actively promote the role of the PA within the Practice and externally to key stakeholders and agencies.
29. Respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
5. Health and Safety
30. Comply at all times with the Practice Health and Safety policies by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the organisations Incident Reporting System (IRS).
31. Comply with the Data Protection Act (1984) and the Access to Health Records Act (1990).
32. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
33. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
34. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
