Marine Water Quality Officer – Operations Catchment Services
We are looking for a Marine Water Quality Officer to support evidence‑based decisions on the impact of discharges on water quality across key areas, including nuclear new build, major infrastructure projects and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. In this role you will work with a team of technical specialists to model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries and advise on a range of marine environmental issues.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions for internal and external stakeholders.
* Review complex reports, interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work clearly, escalating challenges when necessary.
* Use data to inform and update water quality models.
* Apply sound records‑management principles to ensure data integrity.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with the dispersed team and with external partners.
* Take incident‑management duties as part of the role, with full training and support, and where required, additional payment and flexible arrangements.
* Contribute initiative to the work of the team and wider organisation.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as marine biology, environmental science or engineering.
* Desirable: knowledge of water quality and marine environment; working towards professional membership.
* Experience in data analysis with modelling software; skills in Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix are advantages.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and willing to travel for occasional national meetings.
* Strong communication skills, able to convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
It is a national role based at the EA Office, with flexible/hybrid working arrangements
