Senior Product Inspection Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Product Inspection Engineer to join a dedicated team supporting critical engineering activities from product validation through to new product development. This role offers the chance to work with state-of-the-art measurement technologies in a cutting-edge environment focused on driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
* Perform precise dimensional and surface measurements using microscopes, hand gauges, contact and optical measurement systems.
* Produce detailed inspection reports and effectively communicate technical findings to stakeholders.
* Lead inspection method development, measurement process innovation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
* Research new technologies and collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to enhance department capabilities.
* Supervise and mentor junior engineers and students.
* Ensure calibration and maintenance of equipment to maintain operational excellence.
* Support departmental targets related to budget, quality, performance metrics, and safety standards.
Skills & experience required
* Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
* Master's degree in metrology or precision engineering (desirable).
* NPL Dimensional Measurement Certificates Level 1 & 2 (advantageous).
* Strong knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and surface finish measurement techniques.
* Hands-on experience with manual and digital microscopes, contact and optical 3D metrology equipment.
* Familiarity with concepts like traceability, measurement uncertainty, gauge R&R, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
* Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, including GD&T specifications.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software and programming skills (Matlab, Python, VBA).
* Proven track record mentoring junior team members or apprentices.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
* Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working under pressure with a proactive approach.
* Knowledge of 5S and workplace organisation best practices.
