The role provides a high-quality and efficient medical typing service to consultants and junior medical staff, ensuring timely and accurate production of clinical documentation. Alongside typing duties, the post holder will support the smooth running of the office by managing incoming and outgoing correspondence and carrying out a range of general administrative tasks. Working as part of a busy team, the role requires a flexible and adaptable approach, including providing cover during periods of staff absence to maintain continuity of service.

The role involves accurately inputting and maintaining data on Trust systems such as Careflow and PAS, ensuring records remain current, well‑organised and compliant with Trust procedures. It requires strong communication skills when working with colleagues, management and patients, as well as the transcription of clinic letters and complex medical documents into hospital systems while ensuring secure and efficient filing of both electronic and manual records.
The post holder will maintain effective office and filing systems, extract patient and statistical information when needed, and ensure all test results, investigations and correspondence are correctly recorded in patient notes and the EPR.
The role includes attending mandatory training, participating in ongoing personal development and following standard operating procedures, seeking guidance from senior administrative staff when required. Responsibilities also include managing correspondence in line with GDPR, assisting with stock control for stationery and patient information materials, using judgement to support patient enquiries, and ensuring all outpatient and inpatient correspondence is produced accurately and sent within agreed timescales.
