This is an opportunity to join a specialist environmental consultancy with a headcount of around 25 staff, split across two UK offices, with plans to open a third office next year. The Role
We are seeking a Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant with experience delivering pre-planning water environment consultancy services across residential, renewable energy, and utilities projects.
You will contribute to projects requiring Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Impact Assessments, Sustainable Drainage Strategies, and hydrological studies.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce reports including flood risk and drainage assessments.
* Ensure deliverables comply with national/local policy and best practice.
* Undertake site visits to collect flood risk and drainage data.
* Liaise with key stakeholders such as EA, SEPA, LLFAs, IDBs, and sewerage undertakers.
* Provide consultancy advice at design meetings.
* Collaborate with specialists across hydrology, ecology, and construction.
* Support bids and proposals.
Candidate Profile
* Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
* 2+ years’ experience in drainage/surface water management.
* Background in flood risk management within consultancy, public sector, or regulatory bodies.
* Knowledge of legislation, planning policy, and design standards relating to flood risk and drainage.
* Strong understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
* Experience delivering and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for planning applications.
* Skilled in stakeholder engagement and technical/non-technical report writing.
* Proficiency with modelling/design software (e.g., InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD).
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
* Full UK driving licence.
