The business is in a strong position, with a healthy pipeline of work and currently turning away projects due to demand.

The consultancy prides itself on being collaborative and close-knit, with a strong focus on sustainability and practical solutions for responsible development. They are committed to staff development, offering 20 days of CPD per year, and are open to flexible working arrangements such as a 9-day fortnight, 4-day week, or other iterations to support work-life balance.

The Role

We are seeking a Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant with experience delivering pre-planning water environment consultancy services across residential, renewable energy, and utilities projects.

You will contribute to projects requiring Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Impact Assessments, Sustainable Drainage Strategies, and hydrological studies.

Key Responsibilities

* Produce reports including flood risk and drainage assessments.
* Ensure deliverables comply with national/local policy and best practice.
* Undertake site visits to collect flood risk and drainage data.
* Liaise with key stakeholders such as EA, SEPA, LLFAs, IDBs, and sewerage undertakers.
* Provide consultancy advice at design meetings.
* Collaborate with specialists across hydrology, ecology, and construction.
* Support bids and proposals.

Candidate Profile

* Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
* 2+ years’ experience in drainage/surface water management.
* Background in flood risk management within consultancy, public sector, or regulatory bodies.
* Knowledge of legislation, planning policy, and design standards relating to flood risk and drainage.
* Strong understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
* Experience delivering and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for planning applications.
* Skilled in stakeholder engagement and technical/non-technical report writing.
* Proficiency with modelling/design software (e.g., InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD).
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
* Full UK driving licence.

Benefits

* 20 days CPD allowance per year.
* Paid professional membership.
* 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service).
* Flexible hours policy.
* Private healthcare and pension contribution.
* Hybrid working options.
* Relocation package (within the UK) may be available for the right candidate.
* Flexible working arrangements (9-day fortnight, 4-day week, or similar).
