We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking and proactive Technical Operating Support Officer to become the central operational lead at the Backstage Centre, working closely with the Director of the NCCI at the National College of Creative Industries. This pivotal role will oversee the day-to-day technical and operational management of our specialist production facilities, including performance studios, rehearsal rooms, AV suites, recording spaces and our Sound Stage, ensuring they operate to professional industry standards. In addition to coordinating commercial hires and external industry bookings, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing the educational programmes delivered from the Backstage Centre, working closely with curriculum teams to ensure students and apprentices benefit from a professional, industry-standard learning environment. You will manage technical crew (employed and freelance), maximise space utilisation through innovative and creative packages for film shoots, rehearsals, podcasting, content creation and training, and ensure seamless delivery of both teaching and industry projects. Acting as the main point of contact for emergencies, including out-of-hours incidents on a rota basis, you will take responsibility for the safe operation of the building, compliance with health and safety legislation, maintenance of plant and specialist equipment, and liaison with contractors and the maintenance team. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on technical production experience across lighting, sound, AV or rigging, excellent organisational and leadership skills, and a flexible, open approach to new ideas, with the confidence to drive innovation, commercial growth and a world-class experience for students, staff and industry clients alike.
