Overview:To provide technical and operational resource in the development of its state-of-the-art solar cell manufacturing process.
About us:MicroLink Devices UK Ltd is an exciting and dynamic business specialising in the design, development, and manufacture of advanced solar arrays for spacecraft, aircraft, and terrestrial applications. Our Chicago based parent company has developed world leading products in this field based on extensive R&D programmes. MicroLink Devices UK Ltd is engaged in furthering our research-based activities and increasing our technical resource while ramping up our manufacturing facility in Cardiff, South Wales. Our expansion programme will increase our technical and production capabilities in Europe, generating local intellectual property, and supporting our European and global customer base.
The company possesses a core competence in the manufacture and assembly of ultra lightweight, high efficiency epitaxial lift-off (ELO) inverted metamorphic (IMM) solar cells which represent the highest specific power solar technology available. MicroLink Devices UK is expanding the value chain scope that it delivers for the group, in support of the increasing demand for high performance solar cells for unique applications requiring power generation while on the move.
Based at our Manufacturing and Test (MAT) facility in Cardiff, the role will play a key part in the expansion of this scope, and will support the generation, development and implementation of key processes and activities. The role will provide opportunity to add value both in the establishment of the facility and ongoing manufacturing operations, and will suit a flexible, pragmatic candidate who is willing to operate in an agile and dynamic environment. Based on existing demands and identified opportunities, we fully anticipate that our MAT facility will evolve beyond all recognition over the next 18 months, and this role is a key element of that development.
As a young company with a bright future, the opportunities for our employees are unrestricted. Our philosophy is to allow every employee the opportunity to gain a wealth of experience and mature into a position that is rewarding both to the individual and to the company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide technical input into the R&D process, while expanding the production resource throughout our development phase. (It is anticipated that the role will provide a flexible level of support to both key activities on an as needed basis).
•Working with micro components, precision resistance welding and soldering in an electronics environment. (Previous experience of working in micro-assembly or production may prove beneficial).
•Ensure deliverables are met in a timely manner, by working to test and assemble our aerospace solar products and deliver a world class finished product to our customers.
•Operate effectively in an SME environment, interfacing effectively with cross-functional teams to support company objectives.
•Assist the engineering team on technology transfers from MLD US to MLD UK.
•Follow processes and procedures, maximising efficiency of the manufacturing operation and contributing to their ongoing development.
•Proactively identify and resolve operational issues by analysing root causes and implementing effective counter measures.
•Engage with the engineering team to identify and implement process improvements.
•The role has the potential to evolve into either an R&D or production/assembly focussed position (dependent on the candidate), operating in a continuous improvement-based environment.
Key Attributes:
•Team player with the ability to work on multiple tasks/projects as part of a team as well as on your own.
•Be able to manage timelines and deadlines effectively.
•Fluent in English (verbal & written).
•Strong IT skills – Hardware & Software development (e.g. Python).
