Job Overview
As a Mental Health Nurse you will provide specialist mental healthcare to offenders and work as part of the Mental Health In‑Reach Team, supporting wider mental health services at HMP Rochester and HMP Cookham Wood.
You will work in a psychologically minded way with offenders in achieving their agreed goals and quality health outcomes, and will collaborate with community mental health teams to ensure continuity of care and the Care Programme Approach for all offenders as needed.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide quality mental health assessment and screening for offenders as part of health screening.
* Triage offenders within identified timeframes.
* Provide emergency support and medication management.
* Maintain comprehensive and timely electronic clinical records.
* Document and communicate effectively.
* Facilitate mental health groups with other professionals.
* Attend ACCT reviews and inform senior staff of incidents in line with trust and prison policy.
* Participate in patient satisfaction reporting and support improvement initiatives.
* Support practice development, improvement and service modernisation initiatives.
* Maintain NMC registration and comply with auditing, investigations and developmental activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
* Experienced in mental health nursing, preferably within secure or prison settings.
* Experience with offenders, including those with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.
* Willingness to undertake National Security Vetting.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with accurate documentation.
* Ability to manage a mixed and challenging caseload and work with cross‑cover to additional facilities.
