The organization is currently seeking a highly skilled and strategic professional to join their team as an Assistant Financial Controller, Reinsurance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Reporting to the Financial Controller Reinsurance and supporting the Group, you will be responsible for the supervision and review of daily financial reinsurance operations including oversight of the reinsurance accounting function
* Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including reconciliations and financial statement support schedules
* Support the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with IFRS and regulatory reporting for Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and regulators across the Caribbean
* Support the preparation of internal and external reinsurance reporting packages including quarterly treaty accounts
* Perform and/or review reconciliations of reinsurance data and reconcile/resolve any accounting issues with reinsurance brokers
* Maintain high-quality controls and documentation around accounting and finance processes
* Perform technical accounting analyses related to profit commissions and portfolio transfers Perform analysis of the accounting basis for complex reinsurance transactions and prepare memos
* Assist in the preparation of the financial reports for the Board and management, ensuring timely and accurate insights
* Contribute to performance analysis and budgeting processes alongside the FP&A team
* Collaborate with internal teams (Underwriters, Reinsurance Officers, Claims, IT) to ensure complete and accurate financial data capture
* Support the audit process by coordinating deliverables and responding to auditor inquiries
* Collaborate on finance transformation initiatives aimed at improving data quality, system integration, and process efficiency at scale
* Contribute to evolving business needs by taking on additional responsibilities aligned with organisational priorities as needed
What you’ll need
* Recognised accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACA)
* 5+ years' financial accounting experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry or with a professional accounting firm
* Demonstrated understanding of insurance and reinsurance principles and willingness and interest in enhancing industry knowledge via enrolment in professional education such as Associate in Reinsurance (ARe)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal, organisational and analytical skills, and leadership experience
* Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint systems and experience with Workiva (WDesk) would be an asset
* Experience taking ownership of assigned responsibilities with keen attention to detail
* Proven ability to prioritise and manage a range of tasks
* A positive attitude and openness to learning new ways to utilise a variety of software and technologies
* Passion for learning, professional development and process improvements
* Availability and dedication to meet time sensitive deadlines which include working overtime, including weekends, as needed
