JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer
LOCATION: Edinburgh
HOURS: Full time (5 days, 35 hours)
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, involving at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office

How you'll make a difference
* Lead, inspire, and support team members to improve their engineering skills.
* Define and communicate engineering strategies and approaches.
* Work with teams and partners to implement optimal solutions using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Ensure team work aligns with bank values, behaviors, and risk parameters.
* Facilitate cross-team collaboration within the Lab and other platforms.
What you'll be doing
* Support technical delivery for Retirement Account applications across the full development lifecycle.
* Design, test, and modify complex programs and integration services using best practices.
* Support agile development for continuous team improvement.
* Engineer stable, scalable, performant, accessible, testable, and secure software solutions, minimizing technical debt.
* Participate in incident analysis and promote active system custodianship.
* Mentor and lead software engineers, fostering a collaborative culture.
* Provide expertise in system development, integrations, and architecture.
* Contribute to industry standards, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing to improve quality.

What you'll need
* Experience with modern software development tools like Jenkins, GitHub, SonarQube, NexusIQ.
* Knowledge of Quality Engineering (QE) and DevOps processes.
* Experience designing, building, and operating front-end applications.
* Strong collaboration, communication, and advocacy for quality.
* Experience working with Product and Design teams to achieve customer outcomes.
* Agile software development experience.
* Proven software engineering skills and IT solutions delivery experience.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Exposure to diverse systems, technologies, and data sources.
* Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
* Experience mentoring peers and leading engineering teams (not managing).
