Healthcare Assistant

We arecurrently recruiting an experienced Band 3 Healthcare Assistant various hoursper week to be part of our team at Tenbury Community Hospital, which has aninpatient ward with 19 beds. The candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinaryteam (MDT) to achieve specific rehabilitation goals. This will be a challengingand exciting opportunity and will enable the individual to develop new andexisting skills.
Tenbury CommunityHospital plays a critical role in the delivery of local NHS services, providingmore care and treatment closer to peoples homes. Emphasis is to reduce lengthof stay whilst ensuring excellent care which is safe, effective, personalisedand compassionate and to the standards you would expect for your family andfriends.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of a healthcare Assistant are: -
Competentlyperform the necessary aspects of care for patients
Followall policies and provide a safe and person-centred environment for patients.
Participate in personal and practice development activities to maintainstandards of care.
Provideclerical support to the ward including filing of notes and ward documentation,arranging transport, preparing requisitions for ordering stationery andsupplies.
To carry out assignedpatient care duties as directed by registered health professional withoutdirect supervision. Examples of these (but not conclusive list) may bemeasuring height, weight, taking temperature, pulse, respirations, sa02, manualand electronic BP, Urinalysis, assisting with feeding.
Recognise urgent oremergency situations within the environment and summon appropriate help alongwith an ability to support the multi-disciplinary team understanding their roleat these times.
Use IT systems for datainput and collection, patient health records, treatment requests and results.
Ensure that all clinicaldocumentation is accurately collected, updated, stored and filed in accordancewith local information governance and record keeping policy and guidance.

Job responsibilities
The post holder is part of amultidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. Support and supervision isprovided by a Registered Nurse. This role will be expected to carry out a rangeof patient care tasks and duties to enable the team to provide an effective andefficient service.

Use their initiative and take responsibilityfor themselves and the quality of their work and the service they provide topatients.
Provide safe and effective practice topatients within the Community Hospital.
Practice as a member of the CommunityHospital Nursing Team to support and work in partnership with the largermulti-disciplinary team to provide patient care within a definedward/department.
All work will be undertaken under thedirection of a qualified nurse.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Vocational qualification level 3 or equivalent / level 2 qualification in care and willing to undertake relevant level 3 qualification upon appointment.
* Care Certificate or expected to gain within 12 weeks of commencing in Trust.
* Willing and able to undertake Safety Intervention training
* I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
Experience
* Experience of working in a care environment
* Nursing experience within the NHS / Hospital Setting
* Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to provide limited delegated clinical duties to patients e.g. patient observations.
* Ability to communicate clearly in English in both verbal and written forms
* Be able to take an active role to be a link person for specific tasks i.e. IPC and to carry out audits, meetings, feedback to the team as required.
* Ability to follow instructions and feedback to senior staff.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision
* Able to provide supervision i.e. for HCA or T level students.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Additional Criteria
* You understand that we will not provide sponsorship to work for this role.
* Willingness to undertake further training
Knowledge
* Knowledge of care related procedures, clinical observations and relevant legislation
* Basic IT skills
* Can demonstrate an understanding of how to promote independence and facilitate learning in others
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of MHA and MCA issues
