Athena Racing are expanding our technical team with the goal of winning the America's Cup, the oldest international competition still contested in any sport. We are building an agile, creative and collaborative team to compete and win at the pinnacle of the sport of sailing. Our team values have a sharp focus on maximizing performance from our designs, while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
We're growing our software team in support of this America's Cup challenge. This is a unique opportunity to work on the systems that power performance analysis, real-time telemetry, and advanced simulation for one of the world's most technically demanding sporting events.
We're hiring at different levels of experience, so whether you're an early-career engineer with strong fundamentals or a senior developer with deep expertise, we'd like to hear from you.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain software services (primarily in Python) to ingest, process, and analyse large volumes of sailing and simulation data.
* Build and deploy containerised applications with Docker.
* Work with time-series databases and other storage systems for high-frequency telemetry.
* Help deploy and scale services in AWS and/or Kubernetes.
* Collaborate with sailors, analysts, and engineers to turn complex performance questions into robust software tools.
Required skills/experience
* Strong programming skills in Python.
* Some knowledge of a strongly typed language such as C++ or C# (for performance-critical or systems-level work).
* Practical experience with Docker and modern software workflows.
* Familiarity with databases (ideally time-series) and data pipelines.
* Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS) and/or Kubernetes is a plus.
* Good engineering practices: version control, testing, pipelines, CI/CD, documentation.
* Enthusiasm for solving hard technical problems in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Desired skills/experience
* Frontend development with React or Angular.
* Experience with real-time data streaming (Kafka, gRPC, websockets).
* Background in scientific computing, simulation, or sports technology.
* Knowledge of machine learning for classification, prediction, or anomaly detection in large data sets.
* Familiarity with LLMs and AI tools (e.g. for data wrangling, code generation, or natural language interfaces to data systems).
* An interest in sailing or high-performance sport.
Benefits
* Be part of a world-class America's Cup team working at the intersection of sport and technology, with the chance to contribute directly to our sporting success and push the limits of human and technological performance.
* Opportunities for growth — we have openings from junior to senior levels, and will look to develop you to be part of the future of our team.
* Competitive package including: 25 days annual leave (plus public holidays) per annum, Company Pension Scheme, Private Medical Insurance, Life Assurance, Cycle to Work Scheme.
