Overview

Children’s Occupational Therapist

Permanent, Full Time. Grade 4 - £34,434 - £41,771. Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Post qualifies for a £1000 golden handshake upon starting in the post plus a £5000 retention bonus after a successful 12 months with the service.

Working 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham’s SEND and Inclusion services (part of the Children and Families Directorate) are growing as part of the council’s long-term commitment to children and young people to improve their lives and support their families, and we are looking for outstanding people to join us and deliver meaningful impact in this priority area.

A number of posts have arisen for new members of the service to work with children and their families in Birmingham in their communities i.e. home, school etc. This is an exciting opportunity to stretch your problem-solving skills and cross-partnership working in a diverse and vibrant city.


Responsibilities

The Children’s Occupational Therapist post offers a unique opportunity to apply your core therapeutic skills while expanding your specialist knowledge. You\'ll work closely with children and their families, making a real impact through compassionate, child-centred care.

The post holder will work within a team of professionals, providing needs assessments and recommendations to children and young people with disabilities that promotes and supports independent living. They will work in collaboration with partner services to provide solutions and reduce barriers to social inclusion that meet the aspirations of children, young people and their families. The postholder will have a relentless focus on child protection and be alert to safeguarding duties and the management of thresholds and risks.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a qualified professional, with an understanding of the assessment process and has experience of working with children and young people or disabled people in a professional or voluntary capacity. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and up to date knowledge of key legislation and policies.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy Service is a small but dynamic team who have presented at RCOT Conference in the past and members have been in positions on the RCOT local regional and national boards.
