We are looking for a motivated, passionate self-starter who wants to kickstart a career in the employability or recovery sector. This position, with on-the-job training, is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference and support those in treatment for drug and alcohol recovery across the Barnsley area.
As an Employment Specialist you will play a vital role in helping people find meaningful and fulfilling employment. You’ll receive all the training and support you need to take on the role, develop your skills and have access to a broad range of opportunities within Barnsley.
Role
This is an exciting and dynamic role, where no one day is the same and you’ll be making a genuine difference to people’s lives. Using the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model you’ll be required to
* Actively promote our clients as potential employees and raise awareness of the service.
* Promote the ethos of our programmes and Waythrough and encourage employers to look positively on our clients as potential applicants.
* Create employment opportunities for our clients through proactive engagement with a network of potential employers.
* Facilitate work placements, work trials and work experience with relevant employers.
* Provide appropriate in-work support to clients who have secured employment.
Responsibilities
* Working to a high fidelity IPS and promoting employment opportunities as a positive intervention in a client’s recovery.
* Meeting with clients in community settings to develop an individual client profile to assist with career choice and planning including job search, CV preparation, interview techniques and career development.
* To provide support with benefits / welfare advice, disclosure of mental / physical health issues etc.
* To actively engage with local Employers to explore hidden as well as advertised employment opportunities, and to identify potential client candidates for opportunities in the competitive marketplace.
* Provide ongoing in-work support for clients (and employers where needed) to help to sustain employment once this has commenced.
* Arrange regular meetings with clients to monitor and review progress pre and post-employment.

* Experience of running/facilitating small groups.
* Experiencing of networking/liaising with employers.
* Experience of working to integrate disadvantaged or disabled people into the labour market.
* Empathy with the needs of those experiencing mental health problems.
* Ability to travel in the local area with own transport.
* Outcome, solution and task focused.
* Ability to motivate and engage and good interpersonal skills.
* Experience and competence in computer record keeping/database – self-sufficient in admin
* Experience of working in business/industry and/or education.
*Experience / Understanding of working with people with mental health problems in either a paid or unpaid capacity.
* Experience/ good understanding of the IPS model and Fidelity.
