This is an exciting opportunity for a practising qualified barrister or solicitor to work for Suffolk Constabulary in a newly created role.
The Constabulary is committed to keeping people safe and protecting people from harm by putting victims first and effectively managing offenders.
The Constabulary is driving forwards with the use of protective orders and are now seeking to employ a solicitor who can advise on, prepare and present applications for protective orders in the Magistrates’ Court including, Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour injunctions and closure orders.
This is predominantly an advocacy role and regular attendance at court is required.
Essential Criteria:
* Qualified barrister or solicitor with a current practicing certificate
* Experience of drafting and presenting cases in court
* Strong advocacy skills
* Self-motivated & self-directed
* Excellent organisation skills, including time management, and being able to work to strict deadlines and
targets
* Excellent spoken, written and inter-personal skills with an ability to adapt their style to meet the needs of
the client
* Ability to work as part of a team, or on own initiative, and demonstrate effective problem solving and
negotiation skills with a desire and aptitude to learn new areas of law
* Excellent ICT, organisational and administrative skills including the ability to generate own documents
and letters using Microsoft Word and Outlook (as a minimum), manage own diary and maintain tidy and
ordered files
* Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience of advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court, obtaining court orders
* Experience of advising and acting on behalf of police force
* Experience of working with the police
