Overview

Fixed term / Secondment to 17/08/2027. We have an exciting and challenging opportunity to join our small, enthusiastic Health Improvement Team within the Public Health Directorate. The postholder will take forward a programme of Public Health/Health Improvement work to support NHS Highland to deliver on national and local targets and priorities. The post will be based in Inverness and will operate throughout Highland's geographic area; travel around the area is required.


Responsibilities

* Lead and deliver a programme of Public Health/Health Improvement work to support NHS Highland in achieving national and local targets and priorities.
* Collaborate across NHS Highland’s organisational structure and with partner agencies; work across Highland’s geographic area and travel as needed.
* Utilise data to assess need, communicate health messages, and work with delivery partners and communities.
* Provide training and share knowledge to build capacity within the team and partner organisations.
* Engage with the effects of health inequalities and tailor approaches to address them, taking into account geographic and demographic health needs.
* Pursue registration through the Faculty of Public Health practitioner registration scheme if applicable.


Qualifications and requirements

* Firm understanding of Public Health/Health Improvement principles and practice; experience in using data for assessing need and communicating health messages.
* Knowledge of current context, including key national policy drivers and local priorities; advantageous to have practical experience of a minimum of four years in health improvement, with a focus on mental health.
* Strong background in partnership working and excellent communication skills; ability to deliver training.
* Aware of how geography and demographics influence population health and how to address these factors.
* Willingness to pursue registration with the Faculty of Public Health practitioner registration scheme.
* Willingness and ability to travel around the Highland region; post based in Inverness.
