Job Summary
To provide a highly skilled physiotherapy assessment, education, advice and treatment service to outpatients referred by G.Ps & F.C.P.s. Patient conditions include musculoskeletal conditions (including post‑operative orthopaedics), arthritic conditions, and acute, chronic or complex spinal pain.
Main Duties
* Perform specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations who may have complex physical and psychological conditions.
* Hold responsibility for own caseload, working with indirect supervision and regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review.
* Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
* Supervise, mentor, and assess physiotherapy students to graduate standard and ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the universities.
* Undertake evidence‑based audit projects to develop and enhance personal and team’s clinical practice across the service.
* Participate in formal research projects and ongoing service developments in conjunction with more senior colleagues.
Responsibilities
* Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own clinical practice.
* Undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex presentations, using specialist knowledge, clinical reasoning, and manual assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.
* Formulate and deliver specialised individual or group physiotherapy treatment programmes, including patient education, exercise classes, electrotherapy techniques, and manual physiotherapy techniques such as mobilisation and joint manipulation.
* Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
* Formulate soundly reasoned clinical diagnoses and prognoses, make recommendations for the best course of intervention, develop short and long‑term goals negotiated with the patient, and create a comprehensive discharge plan.
* Work in the community setting, which may include lone working with telephone support from a senior physiotherapist if required.
* Be responsible for the safe and competent use of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment and appliances used by patients.
Person Specification
* Qualifications: Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent; HCPC Registration.
* Experience: Significant experience at Junior level covering all basic rotations; Previous experience in Outpatient Musculoskeletal conditions; Previous NHS or equivalent experience.
* Skills and Knowledge: Good written communication in English; Evidence of Musculoskeletal CPD; Clinical Audit skills.
* Attitudes and Aptitudes: Ability to work with distressed or aggressive patients; Flexible approach to work practice; Team worker; Ability to listen and reflect.
* Other: Car driver/owner; Working knowledge of Clinical Governance issues.

Contract & Salary
Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time. Salary: £45,953 to £54,254 per annum (HCAS inclusive). Band: 6.
