Varian is seeking a Network Engineer position in support of our Managed Services global business. The role focuses on delivering support for public and private cloud environments and services, including supporting new and legacy applications hosted in the cloud and continuously improving Varian’s cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Provide network operations and support for Varian’s cloud solutions, including private, public, and hybrid infrastructure, network and security.
* Assist with upgrading, installing, and configuring various cloud solutions, including monitoring, application access, security and firewall solutions such as Palo Alto Networks, Citrix NetScaler, and Citrix ADC.
* Report on current infrastructure status and plan for future usage.
* Configure and support backbone connections over ExpressRoute (Azure) and direct connections and VPN architectures.
* Maintain allocation of IP CIDR blocks and perform network, subnet, VLAN, and route modifications.
* Investigate events from network monitoring tools and web application firewalls and take action.
* Diagnose and resolve root causes of network issues.
* Collaborate to quickly resolve network outages and customer‑impacting issues.
* Contribute to project execution and documentation.
* Create, update, and complete documentation.
* Analyze incidents, perform root cause analysis, and generate follow‑up reports.
* Share knowledge and best practices with network engineers.
* Provide high‑level customer service.
* Understand vendor and telco support escalation paths and provide timely escalation.
* Apply network system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
* Plan network layouts and configure systems for user environments.
* Serve as a technical mentor to colleagues as necessary.
* Maintain knowledge of Varian applications and stay current with Learning Management System courses.
* Provide on‑call support as required during North American business hours.
Minimum Qualifications
* Degree in computer science or a related engineering or technical discipline preferred, or 5‑7 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
* Experience supporting and managing networks in an enterprise cloud computing environment.
* Proficient in network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP), addressing, NAT, subnetting, and CIDR.
* Routing and switching expertise using dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, VLANs, STP, and layer 2/3 concepts.
* Experience analyzing network performance with packet capture tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, iperf, or SolarWinds.
* Knowledge of WAN and VPN technologies including MPLS, SD‑WAN, IPsec, SSL VPN, and Microsoft ExpressRoute.
* Hands‑on experience with hybrid networking and Azure Virtual Network.
* Hands‑on experience with Palo Alto Network firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, and firewalls from Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Citrix NetScaler.
* Knowledge of network security concepts such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, ACLs, DDoS mitigation, RADIUS, TACACS+, PKI, and SSL/TLS.
* Experience troubleshooting telecom/peering partner networks.
* Experience with highly available and scalable business‑critical infrastructure and applications.
* Experience with ticket handling and processing.
* Clear communication skills and ability to explain technical terms to business stakeholders.
* Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure networking services and features.
* Experience with ITIL practices: Incident, Problem, Change, and other process disciplines.
* Experience creating diagram documentation using Visio or Lucidchart.
* Experience writing technical documentation, including operating procedures, instructions, and templates.
Mandatory Technical Requirements
* Proficient with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and holding Palo Alto certification.
* Experience with Azure networking and Azure ExpressRoute.
* Telco/carrier networking experience (strong plus).
* Experience with Citrix NetScaler.
