Summary of the Assistant E&I Engineer role
We are looking for an Assistant Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Plant Engineer to join the Engineering maintenance team in our Cramlington site. Within this role, you will be responsible for the daily prioritisation and scheduling of maintenance tasks for the multi‐disciplined craft and technicians, including, but not limited to, E&I repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installations and commissioning, ensuring all equipment complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Your responsibilities
* Adhere to the Sterling lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit‑to‑work procedures
* Provide direct technical support for electrical and instrument repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installation, and commissioning.
* Calibration and function testing of instrumented loops including valves, level, temperature, flow & pressure instruments.
* Thorough understanding of Electrical hazardous area statutory requirements and the appropriate British Standards.
* Problem solving and diagnostic checks on electrical and instrument systems recommending changes and improvements to the area Plant Engineer.
* Conduct performance management and appraisal process for all direct reports.
* Authorised level of purchasing aligning to the area budgetary controls.
* Implementation of systems and procedures in area of responsibility enabling improvements in operational performance and compliance.
* Progression and Completion of change control documentation

Requirements for the role
* Relevant qualifications in an E&I core discipline is essential.
* Having a COMPex certificate is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
* Previous experience within the chemical industry is desirable, but not essential.
* Capable of prioritising tasks and managing time effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
* Self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude.
* Leadership and influencing skill set to effectively communicate and motivate team members.
* Detailed knowledge of DSEAR, ATEX, COMPex and Safety Instrumented Systems.
* Must be adept at problem‑solving in a methodical manner and have good fault‑finding skills.
* Should be able to demonstrate the ability to appropriately respond to situations with the necessary level of urgency.
* It is preferred to have relevant prior experience in identifying and eliminating root causes.
