Test Engineer
Location: On-site full time - Grinstead, West Sussex
We're looking for a hands-on Test Engineer to support customers worldwide by testing advanced fire testing instruments and associated software. This is a varied and dynamic role ideal for someone with strong electrical/mechanical skills and a proactive, customer-focused mindset.
You'll be responsible for final testing, calibration, fault diagnosis, and quality assurance of complex instrumentation systems. Working across both hardware and software components, you'll ensure every unit meets performance expectations and is ready for safe delivery. You'll also provide technical support to clients and contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform electrical and mechanical inspections and final testing of instruments
* Ensure all components and spare parts are present and functional
* Prepare instruments for safe transport and oversee calibration documentation
* Diagnose faults on newly manufactured equipment
* Provide technical support via phone and email
* Conduct factory acceptance testing and support customer returns
* Option to travel internationally for installations or support
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential:
* Degree in science, electrical or electronic engineering
* ONC/HNC or equivalent in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering
* Minimum 2 years' experience in electrical testing, inspection, or service engineering
* Hands-on experience with instrumentation systems, wiring, and mechanical design
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable:
* Basic programming experience
* Experience delivering customer training
* Familiarity with fire testing procedures and standards
* Knowledge of gas analysis and flow control systems
