Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer an opportunity to work with us. Please see below for a detailed job description of the role. We seek a Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology. The level of training can be tailored from pre‑registrar/ST3 to senior trainee/post CCT level.
The current workforce includes three SpR’s, three post CCT fellows (andrology, oncology, endourology), two clinical fellows (stone, general), a CT1, two FY1’s and a nurse practitioner team. Many peripheral hospital clinics and lists are performed by consultants alone and represent a huge untapped training resource. There are 15 urology consultants with interests spanning across the subspecialties of Urology.
Working for our organisation
As one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and consistently ranks in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. Employees are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), access to a generous pension scheme, and a range of NHS discounts.
Southampton is an attractive place to live, situated on the south coast with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also within easy reach. Living costs are 20% lower than London and 14 schools are rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
At the more junior level you will benefit from short stay and day case lists that occur in Lymington and at the Royal South Hants hospitals, as well as the experience of more complex procedures at University Hospital Southampton. The provision of a consultant of the week will provide excellent training and support, particularly for emergency work. By the end of a year we hope to have you transformed into an excellent candidate for specialist training. UHS has an excellent record in transitioning fellows onto National Training Number (NTN) posts.
A more senior candidate will benefit from exposure to complex operating at the University Hospital. We provide high volume uro‑oncology including robotic prostatectomy, cryotherapy and HIFU, radical cystectomy and pelvic exenteration, radical (incl IVC involvement) and partial nephrectomy, testis, RPLND and penile cancer. We provide tertiary andrology for Wessex and have a high volume stone unit, including paediatric stones and an onsite lithotripter. Our benign service includes many treatments for male LUTS including TURP, bipolar, HOLEP, PAE and Urolift.
