Overview
Help get better trained personnel to the front line faster. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in the Royal Navy’s training modernisation programme, supporting instructors to deliver high‑quality, engaging and effective learning. The role is fixed‑term until 31 March 2027 with a high likelihood of becoming permanent. You will be based part‑time at home and at HMS Collingwood, with a hybrid schedule averaging 50/50 between the two locations.
Job title: Learning and Development Lead – Curriculum Specialist. Full‑time role, 37.5 hours a week (Monday–Friday). Due to the nature of this role you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.
Key Responsibilities
* Coach Royal Navy trainers one‑to‑one and in small groups to plan clearer, more effective lessons.
* Support trainers to move beyond slides and use active learning techniques such as discussion, scenarios and practical exercises.
* Help build confidence so trainers feel comfortable trying new approaches.
* Work with trainers and subject‑matter experts to improve lesson plans and curriculum content.
* Clarify key learning points so they are realistic, memorable and easy to apply.
* Ensure training is structured logically, balancing theory, practice and reflection.
* Use observation, learner feedback and data to identify what’s working and improve delivery.
* Support trainers to use technology and inclusive approaches that improve engagement for all learners.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications
* Background in Further or Higher Education (post16/Adult) with experience in leadership roles.
* Teaching qualification at Level5 or above.
* Strong digital literacy and confident use of IT tools.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively.
* Proven ability to influence others and drive meaningful change.
* A proven track record of effective engagement with stakeholders resulting in development and positive outcomes within teaching, learning and assessment.
Desirable Skills / Experience / Qualifications
* Knowledge of the military.
