Overview
The neurosurgery department is an established department with a team of eleven consultants with subspecialties in Neurotrauma & CSF, Neuro-Oncology, Vascular, Pituitary, Skull base and Complex Spine. The department provides Neurosurgical services to the adult population of Coventry, Warwickshire and North Worcestershire. UHCW is a designated Major Trauma Centre for Coventry, Warwickshire and Northampton, a designated cancer centre and hyper acute Stroke unit. Relevant to this post, UHCW has a busy Neurotrauma and Hydrocephalus service and offers the full range of surgical management from decompressive procedures, shunts and endoscopic work.
This post is aimed at a peri-CCT Neurosurgeon who would like to gain a further period of development in the sub-specialty of Neurotrauma and CSF disorders in preparation for a consultant role. The role also gives exposure and opportunity to engage in specific research and audit programs. This post has been created aimed at improving the quality of care for patients with CSF disorders and Neuro-trauma. The post supports a 1:10 on call rota for general neurosurgery.

Responsibilities
* Management of elective and emergency Cranial Trauma and Hydrocephalus surgery patients admitted under their care.
* Attend morning handover meetings at 0745hrs.
* Theatre attendance and independent operating commensurate with level of experience including unselected emergency cases. The successful candidate will gain excellent exposure and opportunities to develop surgical skills.
* Lead daily ward rounds including ITU and Outliers with junior doctors to guide the inpatient management of neurosurgical and spinal patients.
* Undertake appropriate audits in Trauma and CSF disorders.
