The Role:
The data engineer role at Spurs is a hybrid, wide-ranging, and dynamic position working across several vital areas for the club. Responsibilities include building robust data pipelines, optimizing data storage and retrieval, owning data quality and security, and supporting data utilization such as building data models for BI tools and enriching marketing systems to drive automation.
About You
1. Work as part of a distributed engineering team to build and maintain our Enterprise data warehouse and architecture.
2. Manage Snowflake configurations, including user management, third-party integrations, and multi-cluster warehouses.
3. Design, develop, and deploy scalable data pipelines.
4. Collaborate on data extraction processes and implement monitoring solutions for pipeline health.
5. Use dbt for data modelling and orchestration, including semantic layer modelling for BI and marketing workflows.
6. Incorporate automated testing and CI/CD pipelines to ensure quality and smooth deployment.
7. Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop technical solutions.
8. Manage data security and confidentiality within Snowflake, including role-based access and encryption.
9. Produce and maintain data catalogues and technical documentation.

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Proficiency in SQL and Python (or R).
* Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including performance tuning and security.
* Knowledge of MuleSoft or similar platforms for data extraction and API management.
* Experience with dbt, GitHub, CI/CD, and automated testing.
* Understanding of data modelling principles and semantic layer creation.
* Knowledge of data governance, lineage, monitoring, and alerting.
* Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into technical solutions.
* Familiarity with data privacy regulations like GDPR and security best practices.
* Desirable: experience in retail or sports organizations with high-volume data and real-time analytics.
